Darjeeling Jungpana Muscatel Dry Leaves
The Darjeeling Muscatels are the famous of Darjeeling Teas. Known for its unique grape/muscat like flavour which can not be produced anywhere else in the world, these Darjeelings have gone to make Darjeeling teas as revered as the champagnes. And who would know better than our customers, who simply find such muscatels a complete delight. Hence this year we decided to increase our muscatel offerings from two to almost four excellent muscatel teas of the season. In a 4 part blog post, we would detail all the muscatels on offering starting with Jungpana.
Jungpana First Flush has been a consistent offering in our catalogues over the years. But this is the first time we procured their unique muscatels – termed by some as Jungpana Wonder Muscatels or simply Jungpana Special Muscatels. The first impression given by this tea is of uniform, delicate wiry leaves, which remind one of a fine grade of China Keemun. The carefully-made leaves are an attractive dark brown with lovely golden tips. The scent is sharp and spicy with a touch of toast and cocoa.
Jungpana Muscatel Infusion
The infusion is brilliant, spicy and floral, reminding this taster of a bouquet of spring Hyacinth flowers. A infusion which boasts of the excellent second flush muscatel teas. And steeped at 4-5 minutes, the colour of the infusion is dark brown with an aromatic spicyness.
Jungpana Liquor
The muscatel taste is pronounced and becomes stronger with second steeping. This Jungpana makes a rich, full, bracing cup with a flowery finish overlaid by a suggestion of peat and retsina wine; a one-of-a-kind tea that should be tried for its most uncommon cup characteristics. Overall an excellent second flush muscatel tea from 2012 Darjeeling season. This tea has been summarised aptly by a tea connoisseur customer of ours Barbara – “Smooth and vigorous in flavour.
